QUESTION:
Assalaamualaikum, Ustadz Farid Afwan when someone is safar, or Sholaat is also said? For example, if the safar takes time from the afternoon until dawn (+62 812-8318-xxxx)
ANSWER
Wa’alaikumussalam wa rahmatullah
Tarawih prayer including Qiyamullail. Prophet Sallallaahu ‘Alaihi wa Sallam did not leave it either during the district or safar.
For the authority of Ibn Umar, he said that the Prophet, hopefully the prayer and peace of God is on him, praying on his journey, where he turned to him and he was touched on his land
From Ibn ‘Umar said, “If the Prophet ﷺ on the way, then he did the prayer on the mounts wherever the animal faced, he did it with a signal, it was a night prayer, except the Fardlu prayer. And he also did the Witir Prayer on his vehicle.”
(Hours. Bukhari no. 1000)
Imam Ibnul Qayyim said:
And he, hopefully God’s prayer and peace is on him, does not call the night to rise or travel, and if he sleeps or is in pain, he prayed since the twelfth day of the rak’ah
The Prophet never left a good night prayer in a state of the house and safar, if he was sleepy or sick then he would pray for 12 rak’ahs. (Zadul Ma’ad, Jealous. 1, Hall. 311)
There was even the Sunnah Rawatib prayer in Safar, the Prophet did not do Qabliyah and Ba’diyah.
If you don’t have time to go in congregation, you can still pray at night alone. Both of them are equally sunnah, it’s just that congregation with the community is more afdol. This is Jumhur’s opinion.
