Every human being desires peace of mind. There are those who look for it in wealth, position, popularity, even entertainment. But the more you look for other than Allah, the more restless your heart becomes. How many people wallow in wealth but are restless, on the other hand, there are people who are simple but whose faces are radiant because their hearts are at peace with Allah.

True peace is not a material result, but rather the fruit of faith and closeness to God. Allah Story Emphasize in the Qur’an,

Indeed, by remembering Allah, the heart becomes peaceful

“Remember, only by remembering Allah can your heart be at peace.” (QS. ar-Ra’d: 28)

This is a big secret that many people forget. In fact, the key to peace is in our hands: zikrullah. Let’s dig deeper into how dhikr enlivens the heart, differentiates between life and death, and brings us luck in this world and the hereafter.

Zikr is a direct command from Allah

Zikr is not just an additional practice. This is a direct command from Allah that every Muslim must understand. God said,

O you who believe, remember Allah as much as possible, and praise Him in the morning and evening.

“O you who believe, meditate on Allah with much remembrance, and praise Him in the morning and evening.” (QS. al-Ahzab: 41–42)

This verse uses redaction Man Lots (lots of dhikr). This means that Allah does not want us to do dhikr occasionally, but rather makes it the breath of our daily life. Just as we cannot live without oxygen, the heart cannot live without dhikr.

Rasulullah SAW emphasized that remembering his words,

Your tongue is still wet from remembering Allah

“May your mouth be wet from remembering Allah.” (HR. At-Tirmidhi no. 3375, Hasan)

So don’t let our days dry out zikrullah. Because the dryness of the mouth from dhikr will make the heart become barren, far from Allah Tax. And sometimes, this is where Satan enters, whispering and seducing us to do things that are angry with God. Wal’iyadzu billah.

Remembering revives a dead heart

The Prophet ﷺ made a sharp parable about dhikr,

The parable of the person who remembers his Lord and the person who does not remember his Lord is the parable of the living and the dead.

“The parable of those who remember their Lord and those who do not remember Him, is like life and death.” (HR. al-Bukhari no. 6407 and Muslim no. 779)

Imagine, someone who never makes dhikr is essentially a walking corpse. He breathes, eats, works, but his heart is dead—dry of the light of faith. On the other hand, people who make dhikr even though they are poor, tired, or being tested, their hearts are still alive, full of light, and shine in front of other people.

Ibn Taymiyah Rahimahullah said, “Dhikr for the heart is like water for a fish. What will happen to a fish if it is separated from the water?” (al-Wabil ash-Shayyib, matter. 80)

Without memories, the heart will quickly rust. Rasulullah SAW said,

This heart is rusty like iron rust

“Indeed, the heart rusts like iron.”

The companions asked, “What is the reminder, O Messenger of Allah?” He answered,

Remembering Allah and reading the Koran

“By remembering Allah and reading the Koran.” (HR. Al-Baihaqi in Shu’ab al-Iman, 1: 396, hasan)

Like a mirror. If it is not cleaned for a long time, dust and rust will cover the reflection, until it can no longer reflect the face clearly. So do our hearts. When you neglect dhikr, your heart is filled with the rust of lust, stains of sin, and the crust of negligence, so that it is no longer able to reflect the light of faith. In the end, the heart becomes dark, hard, and difficult to accept advice. This is the “death” of the heart before the body is buried.

So dhikr becomes a medicine for heart rust, an eraser of mental stains, as well as a light that keeps faith always fresh. Whoever diligently performs dhikr, his heart will always be alive, soft and radiant. But whoever neglects remembrance, even though his body is still moving in the world, in reality he is already a living corpse who has lost his senses.

Remembrance is sweeter than worldly love

Every human being has felt love: whether the love of parents, a partner, or the world. But there is no love that compares to the sweetness of love for Allah. Zikr is a sign of that love.

When someone falls in love, they always say the name of their beloved, remember it, and even have difficulty sleeping because they miss it. So if we really love Allah, shouldn’t we mention His name more often?

Allah Story says in Hadith Qudsi,

I am when my servant thinks of me, and I am with him when he mentions me. If he mentions me in himself, then I remember it about myself, and if he mentions me in a gathering, then I remember it. In a better assembly than them

“I feel like the mind of my servant. I am with him when he remembers me. If he remembers me, I remember him in me. If he remembers me in the magelist, I will remember him in a better Assembly than them.” (HR. al-Bukhari no. 7405, Muslim no. 2675)

Think about how happy a servant will be when his name is called by Allah in the presence of angels! Is there any higher honor than that?

So it is not surprising that the salaf insist, “Whoever neglects to remember it, he loses its sweetness.” Zikr is not just a verbal activity, but is a sign of a servant’s life towards his Lord.

Make dhikr a life routine

The most important remembrance is reading the Koran. Because the Qur’an is dhikr itself. Lord Story said,

Indeed, it is We who sent down the dhikr, and indeed We are the ones who preserve it.

“We are the ones who sent down the adz-dhikr (Al-Qur’an), and indeed We are the ones who guard it.” (QS. al-Hijr: 9)

Apart from that, Rasulullah ﷺ has taught daily dhikr which is light but has great rewards. For example:

  • Glory be to Him Lord (Subhanallah),
  • Praise For God’s sake (Give thanks),
  • NO machine Tagged by King Zert Lord (Laa ilaha illallah),
  • Lord bigger (Allah Akbar).

Rasulullah SAW said,

Two sentences that are light on the tongue, heavy on the scales, and loved by the Most Gracious: Glory be to Allah and all praise be to Him, Glory be to Allah, the Greatest.

“Two sentences that are light on the tongue, heavy on the scales, and loved by Ar-Rahman: Subhanallah wa bihamdihi, Subhanallahil ‘Azhiim.” (HR. al-Bukhari no. 6682, Muslim no. 2694)

In order for dhikr to become a habit, it needs to be committed. For example, I promised Allah, “O Allah, I will not sleep before reading dhikr in the morning,” or “I will read tasbih, tahmid, tahlil, and destiny 100 times a day.”

If one day you are negligent, make up for it with alms or double your reading the next day. That way, Satan will be reluctant to hinder us, because he knows that if he succeeds in making us negligent, he will actually suffer big losses.

Brother, life without memory is life without spirit. The person who neglected Zikrullah had in fact died before death invited him. On the other hand, people who always meditate even though the world is pressing, their hearts are alive, peaceful and noble before God.

Let’s start small: do Istighfar 100 times a day, read the Koran even if only one page, attend the science assembly once a week. Don’t underestimate this simple practice. If done consistently, our hearts will undoubtedly be wet with zikrullah and our lives will be filled with calm.

Indeed, by remembering Allah, the heart becomes peaceful

“Remember, only by remembering Allah can your heart be at peace.” (QS. ar-Ra’d: 28)

May Allah make us servants who live by dhikrullah, glorified in the world, and gathered in heaven with those whose hearts always live by remembering Him. آمين.
