Assalamualaikum ustadz…there is a neighborhood inviting us to pray for the end of the year and the beginning of the year, but after that there are worldly events, do we have to come? If you refuse, how do you refuse?

ANSWER
Wa’alaikumussalam wa Rahmatullah wa Barakatuh
The Fuqaha say that not all invitations must be attended. What is mandatory is a wedding invitation. Even if a wedding invitation contains immorality, you are not required to attend.
Sheikh Muhammad Muhajirin Amsar Rahimahullah said:
If there are legal losses, there is no need to respond
If there is dharar (danger/badness) according to the Shari’a then it is not obligatory to go to it.

So, if the event is thought to be just fun then there is no need to come, although sometimes it starts with prayer first.
