Husband/Wife commits adultery, do they just get a divorce?

Permission to ask, what is the law against a husband/wife committing adultery?
Should the household continue or be separated? (+62 856-1160-xxx)

ANSWER

Wa’alaikumussalam warahmatullah wabarakatuh

Adultery is a major sin, Allah Ta’ala calls it a fahisyah (vile) and sa’asabila (bad way).

Rasulullah ﷺ said what are you asking? (married adulterers – the term: zina muhshan) is one of the groups sentenced to death. So it is clear that its position is a big sin.

For husband and wife, if their partner is proven to have committed adultery, there are two options:

– If the perpetrator is the wife, please let the husband divorce, or if the perpetrator is the husband, please let the wife sue for divorce.

– Second option, be patient, forgive, and educate him so that he repents.

If Islamic law applies, of course it will return to the point above, namely that the muhshan for adultery is stoned to death and that is an expiation for his sin. So the husband and wife automatically separate.
